Medici.TV starts free live broadcast of my concert in Carnegie Hall with Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under baton of V.Gergiev. Thanks to AVC Charity Foundation live webcast will be available free of charge and without any subscription to anyone from anywhere in the world, on the home page as well as on the webcast page during 90 days. ...
On Wednesday, after Mr. Gergiev began with Rodion Shchedrin’s short, riotously playful Concerto for Orchestra No. 1 (“Naughty Limericks”), the Russian virtuoso Denis Matsuev, 39, was the soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in G. Mr. Matsuev boasts a prodigious technique and interpretive flair. He is built like a weight lifter and plays with muscularity and power. His sound can be steely and harsh, especially his crash-bang dispatching of fortissimo chords. ...
Recent experiences of Denis Matsuev have not been that positive, so it was a pleasure that his International Piano Series recital went a long way to confounding expectations. True, Matsuev’s stage manner isn’t exactly ingratiating and his pragmatic engagement with the piano (here a beautifully voiced Steinway) gives very little away. Also, both halves of his programme were organised to keep the fans waiting for Denis the arsonist-as-virtuoso, which, to judge from the amount of coughing and phone-checking, was the audience’s prime interest. ...
A decade ago now, I reviewed Denis Matsuev’s BMG Melodiya disc Tribute to Horowitz. Heard live in a solo recital he is just as impressive technically; yet the programming here revealed an intent to show us a deeper, more thoughtful side. ...

1. London Symphony Orchestra, Program 2 ...
When the London Symphony Orchestra visits Australia in November, in a tour that sees them perform in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne following a stop-off in Singapore, their trip will provide both players and audiences with a welcome return to a country they first visited back in 1966, with conductors Colin Davis and István Kertész, and then again in 1983, with Claudio Abbado – at that time the ensemble’s Principal Conductor. ...
Denis Matsuev plays with bravura, and the concerto provided an ideal vehicle to show off pianistic ability. He excelled in the percussive and dramatic passages, and was no less convincing in lyrical sections, and totally revelled in the glissandos. As much as he was dazzling in his control and massive dynamics, a fully satisfying performance of the concerto calls for greater regard for the splashes of irony, levity and delicacy to be found in the writing. ...

This year "Crescendo" celebrates its 10 years anniversary. This unique festival brings talented young musicians, who are at the beginning of their career, and eminent artists to different cities of Russia, France, Israel, USA. The list of cities changes every year, but there is only one that remains in each list every year - Pskov. ...
The highlight, though, was Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto. This is not for the faint-hearted pianist; it demands muscular dexterity and an ability to deliver, not only a quality of ardent longing but also something of the cocktail lounge. Matsuev responded with thrilling virtuosity, his fingerwork faultless, his rhythmic drive flexible and imposing. ...
As always Irkutsk welcomes gathering of classic music stars in September. Denis Matsuev’s festival “Stars on Bailkal” starts these days. This year festival includes performances with the Israel Philharmonic orchestra under baton of Zubin Mehta, this is the first time ISO comes to Irkutsk. Thanks to eloquence of Denis Matsuev, maestro Spivakov is going to restart his career as a violinist during this Festival, which is for sure very important for world music industry. ...
